Day classes will take approximately 9 months while evening/Saturday classes will take approximately one year. Students will have the opportunity to devote 60% of their training hours to practical work. Students may earn up to 8 hours of credits in a day and a maximum of 40 hours a week.
Hours of Operation
PBI will operate from Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. After the first year of operation, hours will be increased to include evening and weekend classes as well.
Costs & Financing
The Professional Barber Institute Barber Course takes approximately 9 months to complete 1,250 hours of practical and theory training. Eligible students will be able to receive financial assistance from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and the GI Bill for veterans. PBI will enable students to successfully complete the program by providing easy to manage payment plans, as well as tuition assistance.
The Professional Barber Institute is easily accessible by Port Authority bus service.
In order to ensure that students are able to fully engage the academic curriculum, PBI will provide referrals to local social services and supports.
The Professional Barber Institute is open to persons 18 years of age or older who possess a high school diploma or GED or agree to obtain a diploma or GED prior to completing the barber program. Students must demonstrate the interest in and motivation to participate in and complete the barber program. Each potential student must submit a PBI application and complete an interview with PBI Staff, as well as attend a mandatory program orientation upon admittance into the program.
